Tondowski, Moshe (Musa)
Moshe (Mona), son of Chaya-Esther and Eliezer was born in 1925 in Zdunska-Wola, Poland. As a baby his parents immigrated to Israel and settled in Haifa, where Moshe grew up. During the war he stood out as a commander and a mortar instructor. Moshe participated as a commander in attacks on the surrounding villages and in the occupation of homes in Hadar HaCarmel. The night before they fell, he stood in the battles of Ramat Yochanan and was temporarily appointed commander under the company commander who was killed. He immediately went back to operations in order to conquer Haifa. Moshe fell in battle after being hit by an Arab sniper on Rechov HaNevi’im on 9 Nisan, April 18, 1948. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
