Tomlak, Mordecai (“Marichka”, “Yimcha”)


Son of Avraham and Miriam. He was born in 1926. He immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1934. He studied at the Tachkemoni elementary school and evening classes at the Max Payne vocational school until he acquired his profession – a mechanic and a chauffeur. He was a member of Hanoar Haoved and this movement affected his life and thought, was a sports member and was a member of HaPoel, especially a basketball player and a member of the Zvulun Association. He took every officer’s course and was a counselor in Hagam and Gadna. After the UN resolution on November 29, 1947, he maintained the borders of Tel Aviv, and at the beginning of 1948 he joined the IDF. He was sent to the southern front and fought hard battles. He was later transferred to the Transportation Corps. On the first Independence Day he received leave and came to Tel Aviv to see the parade. Was wounded and four days later, on 9 May 1949, died of his wounds and was brought to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
