Toledano, Nisim


Ben Sa’ada-Odette and Yehuda. Nissim was born in Kiryat Tivon on April 12, 1962. He grew up and was educated in the Yishuv, graduating with honors from the high school in the “Ahuzat Yeladim” boarding school in Haifa. Nissim joined the Border Police and served as a fighter. On his discharge certificate, his commanders assessed him as a good and disciplined soldier, efficient and dedicated, very responsible for his work. Nissim was a modest and quiet young man who was very fond of carpentry, and was interested in soccer during his free time. On December 13, 1992, at 4 AM, Nissim made his way from the home of his wife’s parents to the base, where he was kidnapped by terrorists who led him to the Ma’aleh Adumim area. “The terrorists demanded the release of Sheikh Yassin, but this was not possible.” On December 15, 1992, his body was found In the Ma’ale Adumim area, where the terrorists murdered him. Sergeant Major Nissim was thirty years old when he died. He was buried in the Haifa cemetery. The kidnappers and murderers were captured a few months later, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment. In the course of the trial, the kidnappers told him that he had asked for his last request before he was murdered – Nissim replied that all he was asked to do was wear a uniform, showing his loyalty to the state and his pride in serving the Border Police until his last day. At the Border Police base in Lod. Every year on Succoth, a mini-soccer tournament is held to commemorate Nissim.
