Toby, Nissim


Son of Kamar and Shalom, was born in 1920 in Yemen. When he immigrated to Israel in 1936, he volunteered to protect the Yishuv in the service of the Nutras. During World War he enlisted in a Hebrew unit in the British Army. He continued to serve in the Jewish Brigade until after the war. After his discharge from the army, he worked as an agricultural laborer in Moshav Kfar Haim and joined the Palmach, and during the War of Independence he took part in combat operations in the Negev Brigade and took part in all the activities of his unit until he fell in battle in Ashdod. The attack failed in light of the enemy’s superiority, but forced the Egyptians to prepare for the attack and halted their advance northward, which fell on May 3, 1948. On the 7th of Cheshvan 5710 1949) was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
