Tilititsky, Israel

Israel, son of Chaya and Benjamin Tilitsky, was born on 14.1.1929 in the Galilee village of Yesod Hama’ala. From the beginning of the War of Independence he participated in the defense of the Upper Galilee and in the battles with the gangs he was one of the best machine-gunners of the Baran machine and of those who participated in the attack on Nabi Yosha. During the retreat, he kept covering his comrades, and fired constantly until his friends boarded the buses. When he was left alone, he threw himself out of the castle and rolled with the Bren down the mountain, and was saved, but was hit in the knee. He did not receive the necessary treatment and because of his limp he could not go out. But before the attack on Mishmar HaYarden, he demanded that he be included in the defense of the place, saying that he could also limp and fight. On 27 Iyar, June 5, 1948, he was killed by a shell. Israel was brought to rest in the cemetery at Yesod HaMa’ala.
