The Righteous Among the Nations, Eliezer (Eli)

Son of Hannah and Pinchas. He was born on October 10, 1968 in Jerusalem. He attended the Elyakim religious school in Beit Shemesh. He then studied for one year at the First High School in Beit Shemesh and completed his studies at Yemin Orde Youth Village. Eli stood out with his help to others. The director of the Yemin Orde youth village says that “from the day he arrived, I was struck by his social skills and his ability to work for the individual and the group.” He adds that Eli studied in the theoretical track and read many books on a wide range of subjects, and “he invested most of his physical energy in excellence in sports, and as captain of the basketball team brought the local team to impressive achievements.” Eli was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and eventually led the movement’s branch in Beit Shemesh. As the local resident, Yehuda Govani, notes: “I remember you from the Bnei Akiva branch, laughing and singing and eating and bursting into the circle of Yemenite dancers with a Yemenite dance ‘for candle and perfume.'” Eli’s friends tell us that he loved to dance folk dances and that he participated in many trips around the country and took an active part in organizing them. In early January 1988, Eli was recruited to the IDF and joined the Nahal Brigade. After completing basic training, he continued his training as a combat soldier. On the 2 nd of Tishrei 5749 (October 2, 1988) in the area of ​​Beit Horon, Eli fell in the line of duty and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of Beit Shemesh cemetery. Survived by his parents, four sisters and three brothers – Rivka, Yitzhak, Rachel, Benjamin, Daniel, Iris and Dina. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “During the course of training in the brigade, he demonstrated a high level of female soldiers and was chosen for the position of commander of the company.” Eliezer excelled in his thoughtful approach and the help he provided to his comrades in the company and the company.
