Texon, Joseph

He was particularly interested in literature, in the knowledge of the land and in general history. He specialized in painting delicate skins and in his wages supported his parents. From the beginning of the events he was one of the defenders of the Old City until the breakout of the Zion Gate by the liberators, but even then he rejected the proposal to rest a bit beyond the front, saying that he would not leave the place he liked. During a fierce Arab assault on a shelter area in the Old City, was hit by a bullet and fell on the 14th of Iyar 5708 (May 23, 1948). In August 1967, he was brought to eternal rest in a grave on the Mount of Olives. His name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
