Tessler, Yisrael
Yisrael, son of Chaya and Zvi Tessler, was born on the 11th of Cheshvon, 11.11.1913 in the Marmaris region (then in northeastern Hungary and later in Romania). He studied in cheder and when he grew up he studied weaving at the JDC vocational school in Sighet. At the start of the Second World War, Yisrael joined those who went on an illegal immigrant ship down the Danube. Once in Israel, he was hired to work in a weaving factory near Bnei Brak and was known as one of the most professional workers and would help the novice workers and would try to cheer up his friends. In Bnei Brak he established a family and lived peacefully with his wife and two children. Yisrael was a member of the Haganah, and in the War of Independence he served in the elite unit of the “Kiryati Brigade.” On the verge of the first truce, during guard duty between Kfar Ono and Yehudah, Yisrael fell, on the 4th of Sivan, June 11, 1948 during the attack on our positions in the Ono Valley. He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
