When Roy was a small boy, his family moved to Ashkelon and he began studying at the Nof Yam Elementary School in the city. He was very competitive and did not easily accept his losses. Roy liked to play sports. Basketball took a central place in his world, and after his induction, when he could not devote time to basketball training, he was troubled by the fact that his level of play had declined. At the end of March 1993 Roi enlisted in the IDF and wanted to become a physical training instructor in the IDF, but when he was sent to basic training in the artillery corps, he accepted reality and ended up as an outstanding member of the company.
