Tenenbaum, Ze’ev
Ze’ev, son of Miriam and Emanuel, was born on 21 August 1937 in Leipzig, Germany, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1939. He studied at the Yahelam Elementary School in Ramat Gan and later continued his studies He studied music at the “Shevach” vocational school in Tel Aviv, where he grew up playing music, first playing the recorder and then playing the trumpet, Ze’ev (many of whom called him “Ze’evi”), He was a member of the Scouts movement in Ramat Gan and had many friends from the school, the movement and among the neighbors’ children, and when he was in the vocational school he was active in the Gadna air force. Ze’ev loved carving wood and had a talent for painting. He loved children and loved people in general. He also had great love for animals, and treated every abandoned animal he encountered. Even during his studies at the Shevach school and during his army service, Ze’ev continued to study music. Ze’ev was drafted into the IDF in late October 1955 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he was trained as a tank gunner in the Armored Corps, and participated in the Sinai Campaign in the battle for the Gaza Strip after completing his training course. As a commanding officer in this role, his commanding officer was considered a good soldier who understood quickly, adult and responsible, disciplined and independent, He participated in a concert with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor Carlo Maria Giulini recommended that he study abroad. In 1959, Ze’ev went to study music at the Munich High School of Arts. He spent six years there and when he returned to Israel he joined as a trumpet player for the Israel Opera Orchestra. He wanted to be accepted into reserve duty for the IDF orchestra and successfully passed the entrance exam, and he was a trumpet player at a very high level, but his commanders in the Armored Corps refused to give in. While working at the Opera, he recorded with the Israel Symphony Orchestra, And taught music to youth in Tel Aviv, Ramle and Lod, where he invested great effort in teaching, and served as a non-commissioned officer for the Sherman tank in the Armored Corps, and fought in the Six Day War on the Jerusalem front. During the War of Attrition, he served in reserves in the outposts along the Suez Canal. In 1968 he married and spent several months abroad. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Ze’ev was called to his unit and participated in the battles against the Syrians on the Golan Heights. In a battle that took place on the 9th of Tishrei 5734 (October 9, 1973) in the oil pipeline near Hosaniya, his tank was hit directly and he was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his wife, mother, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant
