Teller, Yair


Son of Shmuel and Ada. He was born on the 22nd of Tishrei 5633 (22.10.1932) in Tel Aviv. His parents moved to Daughter of-Yam in 1935, where he studied at the Tachkemoni elementary school and completed his studies there. He received his high school education from the Tel Aviv school. He belonged to the HaNoar HaOved movement and the maritime division of HaPoel in Bat Yam. He took an active part in all the meetings and demonstrations of the youth and in all the voyages of his life, first as a trainee and later as a guide and coordinator of the “company”. There was no such action in Bat Yam that Yair did not take an active part in it. In 1947 he joined the ranks of the Haganah and, with the outbreak of the War of Independence, participated in all of Daughter of-Yam’s activities – first as a liaison and later as a radio operator. Was one of the first to enter Jaffa after it was conquered. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the IDF in October 1950 and served in the Israel Air Force and after completing his regular service he continued in the regular army and attained the rank of captain. In order to have the opportunity to visit the university, he completed his military service, and within two years he completed his first three years in the Department of Geography and Oriental Studies. Which were intended for him in the IDF for the benefit of the people and the state Moore graduated. However, he died of his illness on 27 June 1960 and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left a wife and a son. A number of memorial projects were erected in his memory: a) In Ramat-Yosef a club of “HaNoar HaOved” was founded by the municipality, the Jewish Agency and the Hanoar Haoved Center. B) The workers’ council in Daughter of-Yam established a library bearing his name in the Amidar neighborhood. C) The Hebrew University of Jerusalem established, in cooperation with the Israel Air Force, a study room in his memory. D) “Hapoel” in Bat Yam, in his naval company, called a boat after him.
