Tauber, Shalom


Son of Malka and Yosef, was born on September 16, 1917, in the city of Zlowiec, Poland, and immigrated to Israel in 1933, two years after completing elementary school. In Israel, Shalom worked as a laborer in the orchard. In 1940 he joined the British army. In 1941 peace was captured on Greek soil. For four years, until the collapse of the Nazi Reich, he was captured by the Germans. Upon his return to Israel he began a new life: he joined a cooperative of veterans, worked in the manufacture of blocks and established a family. As a place of residence he chose the Sharon and lived a life of hard work and happiness. As a discharged soldier he was called to service in May 1948, served in the 7th Brigade and was sent immediately to the Latrun sector. He served only two weeks in the army and fell in Operation son of-Nun Bet, the second attack on Latrun in a battle near Deir Ayoub on May 31, 1948. He left behind a wife and a girl. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
