Tarshish, Hanan-Gedalyahu


Hanan Gedalyah, son of Aharon and Zehava Tarshish, was bor in 1935 in Haifa. The family moved to Jerusalem in 1948, when the War of Independence began. He was a member of the Gadna Brigade, and in the year 5711 he completed a course in Gadna, and when he completed his high school studies, he went to the entrance examination of the Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University and was among the first fifty students who received the first course in this faculty, and was active in the volunteer line of the Student Union for Youth Education in the Talpiot transit camp. He joined the IDF in July 1953. While serving in active reserve duty, he went with his class to secure the vicinity of Ma’ale Hahamisha; In the morning he was wounded by an enemy bullet, and the next day, on the 20th of Adar 5754 (March 25, 1954), he died of his wounds at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem and was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
