Tapiro, Edmund
Son of Miriam and Isaac, was born on September 17, 1930, in Algiers. Edmund was the eldest son of his family. At a young age he was orphaned from his father and forced to go to work to help support his family. He had learned the profession of plumbing, and from it he had made a living all his life. In 1952 Edmond married, left Algeria and moved to France. In this country his children were born. In October 1972 he immigrated to Israel and settled with his family in Ashdod. Edmund worked odd jobs. He enlisted in a reserve unit in the IDF, and in his service was employed to secure IDF installations. In July 1979, Edmond was called to reserve duty in the Shomron area. During his service, a bullet was fired from his machine gun and Edmund was hit and killed on the 25th of Tammuz 5739 (July 20, 1979). He was 49 years old when he fell. He was laid to rest at the Ashdod military cemetery. He left behind a wife, five sons, a daughter, three brothers and a sister.
