Tammler, Michael (Mickey)


Son of Hannah and Shlomo, was born on November 12, 1928 in Radautz, Bukovina, Romania. A son of a family of laborers. At a young age he fell into the clutches of the Nazis who worked him hard and his parents murdered. Michael managed to escape from his tormentors after jumping from the death train and hiding in the forests for months. He was in a large mass grave of hundreds of Jews and came out alive. After the hardships of the labor camps and death, he immigrated to Israel in 1944 as part of the Youth Aliyah. He was first educated in Kfar Yehoshua and then moved to the Son of Shemen Youth Village. He left for training in Kibbutz Degania A together with his friends in the “Hachushalim” group. Upon the outbreak of the War of Independence, he served in one of the Palmach battalions in the “Yiftach” brigade, took part in the battles near Ein Zeitim, and took part in the battles for the entire day, A memorial to the ten fallen members of the “Ha-Noar Haoved Hameuchad” nucleus, “Eretz Hachushalim” (“The Land of the Chosen”) in Ein Zaytun,
