Tamir (Titenschneider), Akiva

Son of Fishel and Luba. He was born on 20 August 1925 in Tel Aviv and completed his studies at the “Tel-Nordoi” elementary school, where he was inducted into Gadna in Tel Aviv in 1942. In 1942, He was among the first enlisted Palmach members, even though the age of Kabbalah was then eighteen; But because of his strong body and spiritual maturity and his dedication to the Hagana in the past, he was accepted before he reached the enlistment age. During his service in the Palmach, he moved from camp to camp, and in several cases he showed courage and willingness to perform daring operations, while in Ein-Harod he also worked in the agriculture and during training. Beit She’an Valley, Jenin, Nablus and other Arab villages south of Beit Shean, and after his transfer to Giv’at Hashlosha, he was discharged and enlisted by the Haganah to serve as a guard in the British army camps where he assisted in the transfer of arms and ammunition. He was recruited as a member of the Hagana (along with his car) to transport foodstuffs and materials to fortify the remote settlements in the Negev, and was responsible for the supply of services to Jerusalem And in the Negev, he fell in the line of duty on the 25th of Av 5761 (August 27, 1951) and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Rehovot. And a child, his wife was pregnant when they fell, and the second child was named after him, and several pages were dedicated to the students of the Tel Nordoi elementary school in Tel Aviv, which the parents spent together with the school administration. In November 1967, his son, Lieutenant-Colonel Shalom Tamir, fell while serving in the IDF.
