Tal (Twilly), Gershon (‘Gary’)

Son of Yosef and Devorah. He was born in Kiryat Ata on September 24, 1949. He studied at the Rambam religious elementary school and continued his studies at the ORT high school in Kiryat Ata and completed his studies at the ” Youth, Kfar Hasidim. The headmaster of the elementary school says: “From the day Gershon joined the Bnei Akiva youth movement, he devoted all his energies to the youth movement, and sometimes he collided with his studies, but he could find the intermediate path between the two. He was always willing to volunteer and to perform missions that were imposed on him in order to benefit all the people, and he knew how to stand up for his opinions when he thought that he had done an injustice and preached morality to those who were tempted by the path of truth. , How he would stand for hours and argue vehemently with his friends about ways to realize pioneering ideals, trying to convince them that indeed the way he points He loved to pass before the ark during prayers in the synagogue, and at that moment his great modesty had always disappeared, and he saw with great pride his eyes. He was a sports fan from his childhood and joined the Hapoel-Kiryat Binyamin team. Prior to his studies at the Teachers College, Gershon volunteered to train youth at a summer camp for large families in Kiryat Ata. Gershon enlisted in the IDF in February 1968. After completing basic training, he took part in a course on explosive devices and a parachute training course, serving in these positions for three years and then volunteering for the career army until retirement age. Gershon took many professional courses in his career, and in his last position was a parachute instructor with the rank of major sergeant. He was always admired by his commanders for his various roles and was loved by all because of his comfortable nature and his dedication to his work in the IDF On February 3, 1978, Gershon fell during his service. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife, two daughters, parents, and nine brothers and sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Gershon was one of the best in my command, and he was an example of his comrades in the army and his willingness to engage in any difficult task, He was dear to us all and a close friend to many of us. ” His parents and wife donated a Torah scroll in memory of him in a synagogue in Kiryat Binyamin and in a synagogue in Rehovot.
