Tal, Omri
Omri, son of Esti and Yoram Tal, was born in Tel Aviv on October 10, 1991. Omri was educated with a love of the land, and was especially influenced by the life story of his grandfather Eliyahu Finkelstein, who fought as a partisan in World War II. In Yehud, Omri studied at the “Jubilee” elementary school and moved to the “Savyonim” junior high school where he successfully completed the young leadership training, and was a graduate of the “Makif Yehudim” high school. He was humble and contemptuous of material life. He preferred to talk to people face-to-face and refused to use a smart mobile phone. Omri decided, even though he had already been accepted into an elite unit, to postpone his enlistment a year and contribute a year of service as a youth counselor in Kiryat Shmona. Omri joined the army on December 2, 2010. He was accepted to Unit 669, the Israel Air Force’s rescue and rescue unit.
Omri was assigned to the “Barak” 188 Brigade in the Armored Corps, and served as a professional officer in Battalion 53. During Operation Tzuk Eitan, Omri also took part in battles in Saja’iya. He was among the soldiers who discovered the tunnel that led to Kibbutz Kissufim, and according to his subordinates, he saved their lives in his instructions when an unidentified enemy force fired at them. On 5 Av, (31.7.2014), he died and was brought to rest in the military section of the Jewish cemetery in Yehud. Omri was promoted to the rank of captain after his death.
