Szpegat, Zalman-Yosef


Son of Hanna and Eliyahu, was born in 1926 in the city of Ozerov, Poland. He immigrated to Israel with his family in April 1935. The family settled in Kfar Sava. Where he completed elementary school and then worked for seven years as a diamond worker in Netanya. In school and later in society and work he was known for his good qualities: diligent, humble and cheerful. He was a member of Maccabi and the Haganah. Immediately upon the outbreak of the War of Independence, he came to the service, without waiting for the draft order. Zalman-Yosef served in the Alexandroni Brigade. On August 8, 1948, he was hit and fell in Bir Adas, east of Magdiel, when he was helped by a friend to deliver a heavy machine gun from a dangerous place and was brought to rest in the Kfar Saba Military Cemetery
