Sulhiani, Yechezkel-Gabriel

Yehezkel son of Tsalcha and Yisrael. was born in 1938 in Baghdad, Iraq, where he completed his first two elementary grades in 1950. His family moved to Israel in 1950 and settled in Holon, where he completed his elementary studies at the Geulim School, He was a member of the “Noar HaOved VeHalomed” youth movement and was active in the Holon branch, and since he was a member of a poor family, Yehezkel had to help out and went to work in water factories in the area, and in the evenings he continued his studies in the vocational school Yehezkel was loved by his friends and was known for his kindness and willingness to always help anyone, in his work he was dedicated and punctual, and since he began to work his managers did everything to make sure not to lose Yehezkel because he was such a good worker. Yehezkel was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1957. After completing his basic training, he was placed as a metalworker and later as a scribe in a regional workshop of the armored corps in the south. In the mid-May 1960, Yechezkel was released from the IDF and assigned to reserve duty in his profession at the workshop. He returned to his previous job at the water plant, where he remained vacant throughout his service in the IDF, and when the Six Day War broke out, he was called to his unit and did his work with the same devotion and efficiency that always characterized him. he said goodby to his wife and 4 month old daughter, left on the day of Tu B’Shvat 5740 (October 11, 1973), was hit and killed by the enemy’s bombardment and was brought to rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. He left behind his wife,daughter parents brother and three sisters, was promoted to the rank of corporal. In his letter to the widow and to the grieving family, his commander wrote: “Your dear brother, In my name and in the name of all the soldiers of the unit, I express our deep sorrow and we share in your great grief. ” His family donated a Torah scroll to his soul.
