Suissa, Yitzhak


Son of Tamar and Mordechai. Yitzhak was born in Morocco in 1949. He grew up in a family with seven brothers and sisters. Yitzhak began his education in Morocco. In 1961, when he was about twelve, the family immigrated to Israel, to Jerusalem. Yitzhak continued his studies at the Chabad school of Ir Ganim in the city. In 1968 Yitzhak joined the army. He served in the Border Police, after completing his basic training, was assigned to Company B and later to Company D and Company XI. In 1969 he moved to serve in Company C and later in Company 13. Policeman Yitzhak Suissa fell during his duty on 7 Adar, 4 March 1973. On this day he was forced to pull out a jeep of the platoon commander who had been stuck due to a technical malfunction, the APC slipped, deteriorated into the abyss and turned over. Seven policemen who were taken to the hospital were injured, but Yitzhak, who was the worst casualty, died. He was twenty-two years old. Yitzhak was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, Jerusalem. Survived by brothers and sisters. Yitzhak is commemorated at Yad Lebanim Jerusalem, the Border Police Memorial at the Iron Junction and the police monument in Kiryat Ata.
