Suissa, Yitzhak


Son of Rachel and Asher, was born on 28.6.1963 in Kiryat Shmona, where he studied at the Korczak elementary school in Kiryat Shmona, and later moved to the “Iron” High School where he studied for three years. Yitzhak worked in a kitchen at a military base in the north, and in May 1981 Yitzhak enlisted in the IDF and underwent basic training. Because of the situation in his family, his request to serve near his home was approved. Yitzhak underwent professional courses and was assigned as a cook in a unit of the Ordnance Corps. In June 1982, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, serving in the army until the end of his career, and served in an armament unit in Lebanon. On the tenth of Adar 5745 (March 10, 1985), Yitzhak volunteered to escort a convoy that had left its base in Lebanon to Kiryat Shmona, and on its way back to the base he was traveling in a truck loaded with soldiers, accompanied by a jeep guard. 12 soldiers were killed and 20 were wounded, among them Yitzhak, 22, who was taken to rest in the military section of cemetery B Kiryat Shmona: Yitzhak left behind his parents, three sisters and two brothers, and Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Sergeant Yitzhak Suissa gave his life for his homeland. He fulfilled his duties with responsibility and dedication, while personally caring for all the soldiers in the unit. Was a positive figure among the permanent staff and served as a personal example of order and organization. He volunteered for every assignment in the company. Was loved by everyone. “The commander of his unit wrote to his family:” I knew Sergeant Yitzhak Suissa for nine months, since we arrived at the unit.
