Suchatsky, Asher


Asher, son of Rivka and Zvi Suchatsky, was born in 1915 in Chmelnik, Poland. In 1925 he immigrated to Israel with his parents. In 1932 he joined the Haganah and was active in all its activities. He often participated in activities for Aliyah Bet. In 1936 he held important positions in the vicinity of Tel Amal (Halisa), which was surrounded by enemies on each side. He was sent on behalf of Hapoel to the 1932 Olympics in Belgium to participate in water and swimming competitions. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he joined the ranks of the “Carmeli” Brigade and went out to guard the posts. He fulfilled all his duties with faith and devotion. Asher fell in Tel Amal on the 5th of Adar 5708 (February 15, 1948) in a position near his house when he was hit by enemy bullets. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa, and was survived by his wife and a daughter.
