Streisover, Heinrich (“Heini”)


Born in Vienna, Austria. With the rise of Nazism, he left Austria and immigrated to Eretz Israel. During the Second World War, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the 609 Company of the Israel Defense Forces. He served in Egypt and in the western desert where he was wounded in the battle and on the 18th of Adar 5702 (March 7, 1942) died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the British military cemetery in Hilmi-Solom, Egypt. His name was immortalized in “The Book of Volunteerism,” in the book “Yizkor” by the Jabotinsky Institute and in the “Book of the Year of the Journalists”, 1946.
