Strauss, Dan (“Danny”)

Strauss, Dan (“Danny”)

Dan, an only son of Heini and Hava Stauss, was born on January 15, 1936 in Jerusalem. After his discharge from the army, he occasionally went to reserve duty and served in a reconnaissance unit and was called to serve in the Six-Day War. He went in good spirits – and on the last evenings before he left he spoke with his friends about the need to solve the problems peacefully. Danny served as a reconnaissance soldier in a jeep, and on the first night, the reconnaissance team underwent heavy battles and encountered various ambushes by the enemy. The next day he participated in the occupation of Jenin and then participated in a battle against enemy armor in the Dotan Valley and fell on its northern slopes from enemy air strikes during the organization of the force movement; It was the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967). He left a wife and three sons. He was buried in the military cemetery in Haifa and later transferred to the cemetery at Kibbutz Ga’aton.
