Stern, Shmuel (Shmulak)


Son of Dvora and son of-Zion, was born on February 2, 1928 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. On June 2, 1935, at the age of seven, he immigrated to Israel with his parents on the “Polonia”. He studied at an elementary school in Tel Aviv. He continued his studies at the Balfour High School and from there moved to the Hebrew Technion in Haifa. He excelled in mathematics. He was a member of the Hagana and served as a guard. Shmuel joined the army during his studies and served in one of the battalions in the Carmeli Brigade. He participated in the defense of Haifa and the conquest of the city. Was one of the defenders of Mishmar Ha’emek, among the conquerors of Acre and the fighters in the Jenin sector. He took part in Operation Brosh, the attempt to destroy the Syrian bridgehead in the Mishmar Hayarden area. The fierce battles that took place in the area fell on Tuesday, July 10, 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
