Stern, Shimon

Shimon, son of Gelah and Emanuel Stern, was born in 1922 in Germany to Haredi parents and immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1939. Shimon completed his religious education in Israel and joined a religious pioneering movement. He was one of the pillars of the Mitzpe Hagalil (Sejera) organization. Shimon excelled in guarding and defense, and set times to learn Torah. He also served as a chazan in the local synagogue. During the War of Independence he joined the defenders of the homeland and served in the Golani Brigade. Shimon was among the defenders of Sejera before the attacks of the Kaukji forces and fell in battle on the 3rd of Tammuz 5708 (July 10, 1948.) He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
