Staub, Matityahu (“Matti”)

Matityahu ben Dov and Mela, son of Holocaust survivors, was born in Jerusalem on the 1st of Tamuz, June 10, 1956. He liked to learn new things even though he did not like school very much. Mati was drafted into the IDF in January 1975 and was deployed to the infantry corps. At the end of the course, Mati was assigned to instruct Navy recruits, and he was very proud of his new role. His apprentices thanked him for his fair treatment and great concern. He saw his military service not only as a duty but also as a mission. He was a soldier at the Armored Corps and did not try to evade any mission. On the 30th of Nissan, April 30, 1976, Mati fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, leaving behind his parents and a sister.
