Spitzer, Yeshayahu


Yeshayahu, son of Braindel and Avraham Gershon Spitzer, was born on January 31, 1922 in Vienna, the capital of Austria, to a prominent family in the city, one of the first founders of the Eda Haredit (Shif-Shul). He was active in the “Agudat Israel” youth movement in Vienna, where he earned his living as a book-binding writer and in 1939 he immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliya in the first group of Agudath Israel. In Jerusalem he studied at the Kol Torah Yeshiva, then moved to Kibbutz Chafetz Chaim and was engaged in bee-keeping, and was a diligent laborer and dedicated guard. Yeshayahu was a member of the national board of the “Young Agudath Israel” and devoted himself to it. During the War of Independence he enlisted in the army and served in the Givati ​​Brigade, where he served as a cook at the Julis outpost. He fell during the shelling of the outpost on 17.10.1948 and was brought to rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Chafetz Chaim, and was survived by his wife, Rachel, and his daughter, who was born after his death.
