Spengenthal, Jacob
Son of Perla and Yochanan. He was born on September 1, 1879 in Schapenberg, Germany. His father was head of the Jewish community in the city for many years. Jacob studied commerce, and when he reached the age of conscription, he served in the German Kaiser’s army. He later married and established a family and ran a factory for oil. In 1936, following the introduction of the “Nuremberg Laws” in Germany, he immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel, settled in Tel Aviv and established a commercial house for bottle caps. On 4 Tishrei (29.9.1938), when he was on his way from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv near Ramle, he was shot at in the bus he was traveling in and died. He was buried in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery and he left a wife, two boys and three girls, and his memory was commemorated in the memorial booklet “Kofar HaIshuv” and in the Yizkor book of the Jabotinsky Institute. Memories about his life and death were published in the newspapers of the period.
