Sorno, Aaron (Arno)


Son of Bitta and customs, was born on the 12th of Shvat in the city of Essen, the Ruhr region, Germany. Studied in a realistic school and with the Nazi takeover he stopped school and began to study painting-building. He later joined a pioneering youth movement and went to the hachshara. He was very devoted to his parents and when they were about to immigrate to England he parted with them on the verge of World War II and himself immigrated to Eretz Israel, which he arrived on November 10, 1939. Rumor has it that he spent some time in one of the kibbutzim together with a group of immigrant youth, and later worked in his profession in Kfar Shmaryahu and Herzliya. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted in the defense of the homeland, served in the Negev Brigade and fell in the Negev during the Yom Kippur War on May 19, 1948. He was buried in Nir Am On 25 Kislev 5712 (December 4, 1950) The military cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak.
