Kamus was born on 17.1.1953 in Jerjis, Tunisia, and immigrated to Israel with his family in October 1970. He completed his studies at the Jewish school in his hometown and grew up in his home and was educated in the spirit of Jewish tradition He received a Zionist education for the love of the Land of Israel and the people of Israel and was the main motive for his family to immigrate to Israel, and he and his family settled in the town of Ofakim and Kamus took upon himself the concern of supporting the family, And gave him all his salary to his parents, since he was the main breadwinner of the family. Many of them helped to consolidate their status, bring them economic well-being, and help them to fully acclimatize to Israel, where he took the support and breadwinner from whom he had all their support. And was assigned to the Artillery Corps. After basic training, he was trained as a crewman of a moving cannon. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. On the 7th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973) he was heavily injured and killed in an artillery attack. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ofakim. Survived by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Corporal Sophir Kamus of blessed memory fell on October 7, 1973, in an artillery battle in the Golan Heights, in defiance of the Syrian enemy. Kamus and his comrades defended the country’s borders with courage and courage, few against many and were able to do so. Kamus of blessed memory was a dedicated and loyal soldier, in routine and in battle, loved by his comrades and commanders. ” His parents donated a Torah scroll in memory of a synagogue in Ofakim.
