Somekh, Hosheng (Edmund)


Son of Shukrola and Miriam. He was born in 1947 in Esfahan, Egypt, where he studied at an elementary school and at the Koresh high school, and was a sportsman for several years. In Hod Hasharon, he learned the Hebrew language, which was foreign to him, and showed great diligence in his studies, and this made a tremendous impression on the teacher in the studio, and he soon became an outstanding student. Although he did not emphasize himself, he was conspicuous among those around him, after a difficult day of study and work, including participation in the event He would sit with his friend to help him learn the language, patiently and with exemplary devotion, despite his longings for his parents, being far from them and a “stranger” in Israel and in need of encouragement, nevertheless he knew how to help them. He decided to enlist because he fell in love with Israel and decided not to leave her. He was conscripted into the IDF in May 1967. He was killed in the course of his duties. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
