During the First World War he volunteered for the Jewish Legion – the 39th Battalion of the King’s Rifles in the framework of the British Army. The aim was to help liberate Palestine from the Turks. With the regiment he came to Israel and fought in the battle over the Jordan crossings. Solowi continued to sing even after the end of the war and on the 19th of Tammuz (17.7.1919) he died while performing his duties. He was laid to rest at the British military cemetery in Ramle.
