Solomons, Lazarus-Lionel
During World War I, he volunteered in London, England, where he lived, participating in the Jewish Legion who participated in the conquest of the Land of Israel by the Turks. He was sent to Israel and was attached to the 40th Battalion of the King’s Rifles, which was later called the “First Battalion of Judah.” He was later transferred to France and there, on the 13th of Elul (August 21, 1918), died while performing his duties and was laid to rest in the cemetery in Jean-de-Morien, France. His name was immortalized in the book “Yizkor” by the Jabotinsky Institute, at the “Soldiers’ House” in Avihail and in the “Book of Recognition for British Jewry 1914-1918” edited by Rabbi Michael Adler. An investigation conducted in 2017 found that his place of rest was in Laviune, France.
