Solomon, Ofer
The son of Diana’s eldest and Nissim. He was born on December 3, 1964 in Kiryat Shmona. As a child, the traditional family moved to Or Akiva where Ofer began his studies. He first studied at the Sharett State School and then moved to the religious school “Etzion”. Ofer was a wise and talented student. His curiosity was boundless and his aspiration to acquire knowledge and education in all fields was astonishing. With the passage to Or Akiva, Ofer grew up with the great love for the nearby sea – Caesarea Beach. This love brought him to the naval officers’ school in Acre. Despite his difficulties at school and at home (his parents separated), Ofer successfully completed his studies at the 28th graduating class, he was very fit, took part in marathon runs, and even represented the school in athletics competitions. He described how Ofer used to walk on the deck of the rocking ship and on the waves of the ship, which he described as a man whose Lev was open to others and ready to reach out and guide at all times. The sea: “His walking was a confident walk, as if he were a veteran of the experience and a veteran seaman.” Ofer enlisted in the IDF in August 1983. At first he thought of volunteering for the paratroopers, but eventually he was assigned to the Israel Defense Forces, The sea, and after basic training was to kiss the ship “Dvor” of the Navy in Ashdod. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he dealt with routine security missions and the defense of Israel’s maritime border. During vacations he used to tell his family, in picturesque and interesting terms, about his experiences. On the 1 st of Shevat 5744 (5.1.1984), the military authorities informed the family of Ofer’s disappearance, but the search for him did not bear fruit and his fate is unknown to this day, leaving behind his parents, two brothers and a sister.
