Solchansky, Yekutiel (Kushi)


Son of Frida and David, was born on November 16, 1914 in Novogrudek, Poland, to a working family. As a tender boy he had been orphaned from his mother. He studied at the “Tarbut” school. As a child he bore the burden of the family and helped his father in his work. He was a member of the Freiheit youth movement and the He – Chaluts movement in Poland. He spent four years in the “Tel Hai” pioneering training commune in the city of Augustov, Poland. From there he immigrated to Israel on August 11, 1935. In Israel he joined Kibbutz Na’an and began working in the carpentry workshop. After a few years, he changed his profession and left the kibbutz. During the period of searching for weapons in the kibbutzim, when Kibbutz Naan was surrounded by British soldiers, he felt his help and decided to return to settle there. He was a member of the Haganah in 1936. When the War of Independence broke out, he joined the army and participated in a convoy of food to besieged Jerusalem. Where he was required to escort a convoy to Gush Etzion. On his way from Gush Etzion to Jerusalem, he was forced to return because of the blocking of the road by the Arabs. Since then he has been in Kfar Etzion, unable to leave. Be brave and kind. Acting simply. Helping others. Yekutiel fell in Kfar Etzion on May 13, 1948, the last day of battle for the Gush, leaving a wife, Malka, two sons and a daughter. (17.11.1949) was brought to rest with the rest of the Bloc in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
