Sokolowski, Jacob


Son of Rachel and Abraham, was born on January 13, 1931 in Tel Aviv and completed elementary school. He was a member of Hanoar Haoved, the Gadna and Ha-Po’el, one of the best young swimmers, and at the time of his leisure he painted: At the age of 16 he joined the Palmach and stayed in various places: Geva, Tel Yosef, Beit Ha’arava, Sodom and Kiryat Grapes. He practiced for the next, and between one exercise and another was a shepherd and fieldworker. On behalf of Hanoar Haoved, he left with his friends in Kibbutz Gav Yam, but for some reason left the kibbutz. With the outbreak of the War of Independence following the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 concerning the partition of the country into two states, he enlisted immediately in spite of his young age, joined the “Alfortzim” battalion and took part in the fighting in the Jerusalem area and the occupation of Mount Zion. Jerusalem – Kiryat Anavim and died on the 11th of Iyar 5708 (May 20, 1948.) was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
