Sofer, Yigal

Sofer, Yigal

Son of Nathan and Leah. He was born in Daughter of-Yam on September 10, 1945. He studied at the “Tachkemoni” elementary school in Daughter of-Yam, and was very fond of his friends, and after his studies, his parents sent him to buy knowledge in the kibbutz. He went to the vocational school in Holon and bought it, and he went to the vocational school in Holon, where he bought and sold his profession. He was drafted into the IDF in late August 1963. He was now strong in spirit, strong-hearted and with a strong, solid body. He was very active in all the difficult tasks that were imposed on his unit, a paratroopers unit. He was indomitable, meticulous in his performance in every action, and was prepared to go out for activities that were not intended to take part in them. He was “stubborn” and eager to participate actively in every operation – and his commanders agreed. In all the actions Yigal was the living spirit. This is attested to by his comrades-in-arms, commanders and subordinates. His commander simply said this: “With soldiers like Yigal it is very easy for the commander to fight and win.” While in service he established a family and expanded his home. He was very much loved by his family and devoted to her with all his Lev. After completing his regular service, he served as a citizen for a year, but returned to his unit and in January 1967 he joined the regular army. He participated in all the operations of his unit and did not miss either. He died in the course of his duty, after he was wounded in the explosion of the ammunition truck in Eilat, leaving a wife and a young son. Was laid to rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
