Sofer, Jacob


Son of Kaduri and Tzilcha. He was born in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on July 3, 1941. His origin was a family of well-known Rabbis in Iraq, writers of books and Torah scrolls, In the eighth grade of the elementary school in Kiryat Ono, he joined the “Hapoel” children’s group, where he remained until he grew up and was a soccer player at Hapoel, Kiryat Ono, but he did not continue high school In the evening he attended a vocational high school but did not finish his studies because his family was at a low ebb He worked as a professional mechanic and recently as a salesman, and he belonged to the Kiryat Ono Youth Organization In November 1958 he was drafted into the Armored Corps and underwent a course of tank commanders, but on the second day of the Six-Day War, he was killed on June 6, 1967, in Jenin. He was then in the tank unit and in armor in the Armored Corps in the Dotan Valley with enemy armor forces. His tank was hit by enemy tank fire. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
