Sofer, Benjamin (“Benny”)


Son of Akiva-Shlomo and Miriam. He was born on 6 September 1940 in Ramat Gan, a descendant of the Chatam Sofer family, and his education was Torah from the beginning, and his parents invested in the best of Torah education from their parents, Noam “in Pardes-Chana, in the” Kol Torah “Yeshiva in Jerusalem, at the Yeshiva of Rabbi Sasson Letzworth and in the Pnevezh Yeshivah in Bnei Brak, where he used to study Torah studies and was a scholar of Torah manuscripts, He left behind his Torah novellae in halakhah and aggadah, because his work was entirely in the field of Torah, so he chose the profession of the librarian In February 1963 he was drafted into the IDF and after his discharge he joined the permanent army. On the first day of the Six-Day War, he was wounded south of Bir Hasna in Sinai, but died of his wounds at the hospital on the 17th of Sivan 5727 (June 15, 1967). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
