Smiley, Zaur (Zohar)


Son of Larissa and Yuri, was born on November 9, 1984 in the city of Durbanat in the Caucasus, Russia. A brother to Diana, Normored and Isabella. Zaor studied until the fourth grade in the theoretical class at the Chborashka School in his hometown. On June 21, 1994, when he was ten years old, the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Ofakim. Zaor began his studies at the School for New Immigrants, and turned out to be an outstanding student. In 1996 he began his studies in the comprehensive high school. Whatever he did, Zaor succeeded without any effort. He devoted all his spare time to three loves – soccer, tennis and a computer. He studied tennis in private lessons and participated in competitions and inter-city games in tennis and soccer, where he won many medals. For hours he sat in front of the computer and expanded his computer education by reading many books. Four months after graduating from high school, on 3 December 2002, Zaor enlisted in the IDF and served in combat engineering, where he underwent basic training, training in combat engineering, training in the Uvda cliffs, a “Saar” shooter course, And was ordained as a Puma driver and as an armored personnel carrier commander. On May 12, 2004, Zaor fell in a battle on the Philadelphi Route in Rafah. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Ofakim. He was nineteen and a half when he fell. Survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother. After his death, Zaor was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
