Singer, Eric


He was born in Vienna, Austria on November 26, 1914. He emigrated to Palestine in 1939, leaving his wife and daughter who perished in the Holocaust in 1939. After World War II he joined the British army fighting the Nazis and was attached to the Hebrew Transport Unit. On the 27th of Nissan 5703 (1.5.1943), he was with his unit on board the ship “Aryanpura”, which made its way from Alexandria, Egypt, to Malta in a convoy of twenty-seven Allied ships for an invasion of Sicily. 140 of the unit’s soldiers, 462, and Arik among them. In the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, a ship-like monument was erected in memory of those missing. His burial place in unknown.
