Simon-Tov, Shimon

Shimon, son of Tamar and Mordechai Simon-Tov, born in Haifa in 1928, was a member of Hanoar Haoved, joined the Gadna and went to the hachshara. In the month of Shvat 5708, he volunteered for service before serving in the Negev Brigade, and participated in battles and escorting caravans from his base. He came home for four days off and after one day he was called back because the Egyptians broke the truce and attacked the strongholds of Kochba and Hulikat, which were held by the Negev Brigade fighters. They were forced to retreat under the pressure of the Egyptian attack. Mordechai fell on the first day of Tammuz (8.7.1948). On July 5, 1951, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
