Simkovitz, M. (Weiss, H.)

During the First World War he lived in Manchester, England, and volunteered to serve in the Jewish Legion, which would take part in the conquest of Palestine by the Turks. He was sent to Eretz Israel and was attached to the 40th Battalion of the King’s Rifles, later known as the “First Battalion of Judah”. On the 14th of Elul 5718 (August 22, 1918), he died while fulfilling his duties. His name was immortalized in the “House of the Battalions” in Avihail and in “The Book of Recognition for British Jewry 1914-1918” edited by Rabbi Michael Adler. In an investigation conducted in 2017, he found his place of rest in Saint-Pierre, France. He was 19 years old when he died.
