Simchi, Abraham

Son of Jonah and Yefet, was born on 16 March 1930 in the city of Shar’ab, Yemen. On September 26, 1938, his family immigrated to Israel and settled in the village of Marmorek near Rehovot. When he was twelve years old, he joined the Hagana, the youth battalions of the Haganah, was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and one of its trustees. With the outbreak of the War of Independence following the UN General Assembly’s decision to partition the country into two states, he left his job as a clerk in the Histadrut and devoted himself to the activities of the Haganah. In February 1948 he enlisted in a full mobilization and immediately went to the south for purification. Avraham served in one of the Givati ​​Brigade battalions and went through most of his battles with him as a saboteur. Participated in the battles for Gan Yavneh, Kafr Uria, Mghar, Aqir, Abu-Ghaban, Abu Shusha, Hassan Salameh, Deir Muhsein, Tel a-Rish. On May 11, 1948, Avraham fell in a raid on the village of Bashit, during a clash with a gang, when he was forced to use explosives, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot.
