Sidi, Oren

Son of Dalia and Abraham. Brother to Nessia and Naama. He was born on the 20th of Elul 5733 (20.9.1973) at the “Malban” hospital in Nahariya, at a natural birth, weighing 3,350 kilograms, after a perfect pregnancy and after much anticipation. Already in childhood he stood out; In his leadership qualities, standing on a stack of raised dice as he arranged the children in a row and gave them orders. According to the teachers, it was already possible to predict the charismatic and commanding abilities in which he was blessed. In the years 1979-1985, Oren studied at the David Remez Elementary School in Nahariya. At that time he began his glorious basketball career as a young apprentice in the basketball school of Hapoel Nahariya. Over the years he continued to play every opportunity and excel. The value of respect for others characterized Oren in his conduct vis-à-vis the teachers, and especially in his relationship with the school principal. Oren was a member of the Scouts movement, where he was brought up to love the land. At the middle school age, this value received another dimension when joining the tour groups. In the years 1989-1986, Oren studied at the “Ironi Nahariya” junior high school in cooperation with the “Amal” network. His physical and athletic abilities were reflected in his progress in the world of basketball as a leading coordinator, as an athlete and as a “sprinter,” leading the light athletics team to win the prestigious school championship as a member of the Quartet. Oren loved the sea with all his might, reached it at every spare moment, worked in surfing and diving, riding a sea bike and even fishing. In the years 1989-1992, Oren studied mechanics, in high school. He completed his studies with a full matriculation certificate and a professional diploma. At the graduation ceremony I was awarded the title of “Outstanding Athlete” of the school. At the end of high school, Oren and a childhood friend went on a backpacking trip to European capitals and spent many months of odd jobs on the trip to the European capitals. He was stationed in the Armored Corps and devoted himself to him immediately. At the end of the tank commanders’ course, he stayed for training at the “Shizafon” base. He also served as a commander in a training course and was very fond of the training and design of the new “generation of commanders.” As a company commander, he joined the “Sa’ar” battalion, the “Harav” Company, and commanded the young men of the battalion upon completing their training. The command of H Company was the turn of the “wolves”: Oren fought with the Z Company in Hebron and Lebanon and received the letter of the Chief of Staff for the fighting at the Reihan outpost in August 1998. The reasons for receiving the evaluation certificate were: “On July 30 1998, the Reihan outpost in southern Lebanon was attacked, and as a result six IDF soldiers were wounded, one of them critically wounded. Captain Oren Sidi of the Sa’ar battalion jumped into the tank with another platoon commander, cleared the wounded man and paralyzed the source of the fire and fire. It was only natural that Oren would remain in the battalion as battalion commander and would deal with the battalion in the events of October 2000. Oren spent the next two years at the University of Haifa and finished BA in Political Science and Middle East. After graduating, he returned to the Golan Heights in the role of Assistant Division Commander, Division 36. But after a few months, he was called to replace the Haganah officer in the Barak Brigade and felt that he was returning home. Although Oren’s role was far from that of the soldiers and the field, Oren also saw great importance in studying the lateral staff and thought that the day-to-day attenuation of the brigade commander would teach him a great deal. His free time to return to excellent fitness, while studying for a master’s degree in national security at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. PineAfter completing an intensive year of studies, Oren was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel and he arrived at the training base of the “Mali” as the deputy head of the anti-tank unit. Where he discovered the world of training on all sides and Oren knew that precisely this role will complete the preparation of a battalion commander. As part of his role in Tze’elim, Oren was a partner in the IDF’s operations during the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, and in February 2006 he was commander of the Sa’ar battalion, where he grew up as an officer and commander, In the course of a week, Oren fought with the battalion on the outskirts of Khan Younis and other areas in the Gaza Strip, and as the northern sector heated up, the battalion was “raised” to the northern campaign , And for about four weeks they fought in the western sector of southern Lebanon to the outskirts of Tire During the Second Lebanon War, Oren received a special certificate of appreciation from the Chief Armored Corps, and after the war, Oren remained with the battalion on the northern border to protect the northern settlements, and then underwent a long period of training and exercises in the Golan Heights and the south. Oren loved reading books and always read a book “Ezrahi” and “military” or professional. Practicing sports was very important to him – he continued to play basketball at every opportunity, surf and dive in many places around the world and spend the summer and the winter. Oren participated in half marathon and ran independently during the week. He loved traveling, in Israel and around the world, and did not miss a chance to take a short trip. During his service, Oren married his partner Gali, and on October 10, 2006, they embraced their son Inbar. Oren was at the height of his ability and activity, was happy in his personal life and began planning with Gali the construction of their home in Talmei Yaffe, where they lived. During a large exercise in Tze’elim, while commanding the battalion, Oren collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The virus that attacked him caused his body systems to be disrupted and he could not cope with it. After two weeks in the intensive care unit, Oren died at the age of thirty-three, leaving Raya, son, parents and two sisters – Nessia and Naama – to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. His sister eulogized him in the name of the family: “… pine is a green tree with a thick, rough crust, and its roots are deep and strong in the ground, like you. … You grew up in a warm, loving, loving home, with a charming childhood in which you fulfilled all your desires with the guiding hand of a father and mother who were an exemplary educator. … You always went all the way through everything you did. … The desire to win every competition and every game was stronger than anything, but you taught us that even if you lose then you lose respectfully. As a child growing up and teaching about love and contribution to the homeland, Zionism, helping others, and with a guiding hand from a father commander, you enlisted in the IDF … You have completed every possible course with honors and progressed quickly in the ranks as a meteor. , Or when you would come home to Apter … The stories and memories are a drop in the sea compared to your upright and proud figure, your manner, your pleasantness and your values, which you left behind wherever you were and will inspire us to continue your path. To other families, refusing to part and loving endless love. ” Many articles were published in the printed and electronic media, and covered the tragedy of the armored corps commanderAnd the extraordinary personality. “It was an amazing person,” says Sgt. Shimon Bitan, in a strangled voice. ‘The battalion was too small for him. If he had promised anything, he would have been able to put his ranks on the table and keep everything in the world, and you could talk to him about everything. “On the 30th anniversary of his fall, Oren eulogized his great friend Nissan:” … You were the youngest of the group, a man with all your limbs, amazing personal qualities, a true and total friend, A dear brother to your sisters, a beloved husband to Gali who holds us all from the moment you collapsed in the exercise, and of course a father so young he did not enjoy an amber – an amazing baby, smiling and curious … always on the move to see, experience and enjoy. … Oren, I loved you very much, I never told you, but I carefully followed your performance and the functioning of the regiment that you commanded proudly over a year and a half I saw how you are successful in every activity – readiness of the regiment to war, the war itself, the nurturing of commanders, the concern for detail and unity and morale in the battalion, means and logistics … I was not surprised to discover that you are implementing, studying, I’ve always had the privilege of knowing your inner and real beauty, always pampered, understanding, looking for ways to help and assist me personally and all my friends in every task that is required. ” Oren eulogized his commander, Col. Moshe Sheetrit: “… a soldier of the Barak Brigade in your soul, so you saw yourself, that is how you wanted to continue to be.” The war left behind you, a commander who was proud of his battalion’s achievements. “We were the first tanks that penetrated deep into the Lebanese territory, no tank battalion did it to us,” you said, and you were sure that your soldiers knew how much you admired them and how much you trusted them. The determination that I promise you that you will stand at our feet, in every battlefield where the fighters of the Sa’ar Battalion and the Barak Brigade will be required to fight. ” In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, wrote: “… Oren was described as a professional and meticulous officer who had high operational capabilities. He acted out of dedication and commitment to his role and tasks. His deep concern for his subordinates was expressed in his sincere efforts to improve the conditions of their service. Oren was able to create circles of closeness and friendship and won the love and appreciation of many. “Shachar, Nadav and Alon, Oren’s friends from the basketball team of his youth, wrote:” We were a relatively low team, but we loved to win. The love of victory and lack of concession led to ‘the smallest of the bunch’, Oren. As fast as a demon and strong as an ox, we were always glad he was playing alongside us and not against us. We had learned from his training and our adversity that he would encounter him at this very undesirable game – with his determination, speed, agility, and strength, to face him was hopeless. Oren was a central axis in the group. Has always been a leader, influential, prominent and loving challenges. His character influenced the character of the group – a fighting group that really loves the “madness” of togetherness and victory. … He did everything for us to be simpler. And we knew! We knew that when Oren was good, and Oren was in the game, we were on the right track to victory. … He was a combination of exceptional physical abilities, individual character with a lot of ability to connect the group through the performance that characterized only him. Was … in our mind’s eye he’s still! “Gali’s obituary, the wife:” Thirty days have passed without you. We’ve been trying to understand how we’ve lost you for thirty days. … For thirty days now the body has been opposed to consciousness, the heart denies understanding. … and fail to accept the facts and no explanation just does not seep, does not digest, does not work out. … Suddenly you understand the meaning of void in space. … Oren, your departure has left a tremendous void in your soul. We try to breathe enough air, to deal with this emptiness, with the evil of decree, but the difficulty is indescribable. The space of your image is engraved in our hearts and we refuse to part. Space is so significant that your presence remains upright, firm and simple. You are with us at every moment in our daily routine. … you are with us and always will be. Your image, which has always influenced us, will continue to illuminate our path, to be the pillar of fire in our lives, and especially in the education of our child. You’re with us. We do not separate. “
