Shvili, Ze’ev (“Willy”)


Son of Baruch and Sarah. Born in Hungary on 24.11.1930, he completed elementary school in his native country, where he studied for several years in the Gymnasium, and spent his youth in the horrors of World War II and the persecution of Jews in Nazi Europe. He immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliyah and completed his studies at the Youth Aliyah Institute, where he was drafted into the IDF in June 1951 and assigned to the Signal Corps. He had taken a course in communications and was promoted to sergeant. After his discharge from duty, Ze’ev married Tamar and the young family moved to the village of Dishon in the Upper Galilee. Where he became an agriculturist. In 1955 the family moved to Rishon Letzion. Here Ze’ev and Tamar had three sons. In 1964, Ze’ev enlisted in the regular army and was again assigned to the Signal Corps. In 1966 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. He participated in the Sinai Campaign, the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War. Ze’ev was a disciplined and devoted soldier, an entrepreneur, an independent, with a high awareness of maintaining military procurement. He did everything he had to do with precision and diligence, while revealing a great deal of professional knowledge. He was honest and decent, one to be trusted. Ze’ev died during his service after a long illness. On the second day of Sivan 5738 (June 6, 1978), he was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Rishon Letzion, where he left behind a wife and three sons.
