Shvili, Daniel
Daniel, son of Aliza and Haim, was born on 28.6.1953 in Jerusalem. Daniel was drafted into the IDF in early August 1971. After serving as a corporal in the unit, he was sent on the recommendation of his commanders to a course for commanders, but due to various illnesses, he was forced to leave the course. His commanders noted that, despite being medically limited, he wanted to be active and a partner in any military decision. Among his comrades-in-arms he was known as a good soldier, responsible and disciplined. During his service in the Israel Defense Forces, he was careful to preserve the religious tradition according to which he was a mentor, and during his service he was given the “Operational Service Mark.” Throughout his service, he made sure to write to his parents, brothers and sisters. “When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was on the Golan Heights and was sent to greet the Syrian attacks in its sector,” said Avigayil, who spent more than 10 days fighting without fatigue and courage. On October 18, 1973, he was hit and killed in an artillery barrage in the Tel Shams area. The military cemetary on Mount Herzl left behind his parents, brothers and sister, and was promoted to the rank of corporal in a letter of condolence to the bereaved parents: “Your son performed his duties as a rifleman in the companyAnd “Gideon” of the “Golani” Brigade in a perfect and exemplary manner, with courage, dedication and loyalty. He was a good soldier and a friend of his friends and commanders. “Danny’s friends, graduates of the 21st class at the Brandeis School in Jerusalem, published a memorial booklet about the character and path of their beloved friend Daniel Shvili.
