Shulman, Yosef (Yoske)

Was born in Jerusalem on October 31, 1927. He completed his elementary school in the Borochov neighborhood of Givatayim, and his parents wanted him to learn a profession and remain in the city, but he chose a pioneering path and was a member of Hanoar Haoved, He joined the nucleus and went to agricultural training, first in Tel Yosef and then in Lake Kinneret, and finally in a training camp in Dafna, where he loved the soil and affectionately treated the ornamental plants and the vegetable garden. He participated in trips and reconnaissance activities, and during the period of the struggle – in underground activities: raising immigrants, blowing up bridges, etc. A lean but cheerful boy with a sense of humor. At meetings and conversations the comrades knew how to quiet a quarrel and soothe spirits with a striking remark and a funny phrase. He was very devoted to his father and to the kibbutz. When his father fell ill and needed his help, he responded immediately. During his stay at home, the War of Independence broke out and he joined the “Alfortzim” battalion, which was then on the way to Jerusalem accompanied by convoys. On April 4, 1948, he and his commander Nahum Hazaz fell in an attempt to conquer Augusta Victoria on Mount Scopus. He was buried in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. On November 6, 1952, he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
